Went to see this at Old Vic expecting to see Kevin Spacey but 2 days before we went I read in a newspaper that Spacey woulkd not be in the production as he would be filming - a fact that the Old Vic had neglected to tell punters before they booked tickets. Not my cup of tea and not sure that Kevin would have made this dull play any better - the actor playing Dexter (Spacey's part when he is in town) was excellent as were the other players - it was just a very ordinary plot.
Rich, haughty and spoilt, Tracy Lord is about to get married for the second time. But she's reckoned without the reporter sent to cover the wedding and CK Dexter Haven, her quick-thinking, free-drinking first husband. The Philadelphia Story is a mix of wit, satire and romance. It was first performed on Broadway in 1939, and became one of the great movies of Hollywood's golden age.
Jennifer Ehle (Superb) plays play Tracy Lord. The cast also includes Oliver Cotton, Nicholas Le Prevost & Julia McKenzie (Superb). Kevin Spacey plays CK Dexter when he bothers to turn up.
